SIX MONTHS AGO Beata "Beatrix" Garncarek was attacked by a demon. Now, no one in the Inner City will explain what it was, not even her Guardian, the Minister for Research and Medicine. In search of answers, she begins running away to the Outer City, hoping to find the cause of her encounter.

SIX MONTHS AGO Aleksandr Isayev awoke with no memories and inexplicable mutations all over his body. Despite these disturbing new changes, he clings to the façade of a normal life and a desk job rather than face the unknown.
THEIR PATHS CROSS BY CHANCEBeatrix is convinced that Aleksandr holds the answers she's looking for. To get to them, however, she must convince him to confront his lost memories. As dreams of stardust and lost, mysterious voices grow ever louder, Aleksandr soon realises that more than just his past is waiting for him to wake up.
Surrounding them both?MORGRAD
The split city and Yevra's capital. A centrepiece for scientific research and medical innovation. But secrets lie within the smog, lurking beneath the factories and hospitals and, threatening to boil over and reveal just how deeply two strangers' lives are entwined by elaborate, cosmic, experiments.

Founded at the site of a meteorite by the first enlightened Tsar, Ruslan I , the Tsardom of Yevra is the largest nation on the Krateri Kontinent and has a long and bloody history of fighting for survival at all costs. Yevra is the only nation where people can use 'Incantation' — a unique and still unexplained magic that aids many aspects of society. It is this magic use that, despite all nations on the Kontinent racing to embrace industrial prowess, has pushed Yevra ahead of her neighbours in Sibir and the Jagiellonian Commonwealth.
Much of the Yevran Outerlands is still rural, but industry is slowly spreading. Thirteen 'Cities of Power' champion her race to industrial dominance and all are connected by an intricate heavy railway system. In these cities, and across much of the nation, the people do not worship Gods but rather the idea of 'Reason' - that pursuit of knowledge at any cost is the path to real enlightenment.
From its inception, Yevra was ruled by an autocratic royalty that descended from Ruslan I — The Enlightened One. However, the most recent monarch, Tsar Nikita II, has stepped away from autocratic rule due to unrest amongst the populace. After moving the capital from Kiitagrad to Morgrad, he continues to reside on the coast and rule ceremonially, whilst true power now resides with Morgrad's Kreml' government. The government, headed by Senior Minister Alekseev, is primarily comprised of the Tsar's former council of noble families who now oversee much of Yevra's industrial progress, diplomatic and domestic affairs, and policing. The Kreml' also oversees Yevra's most important industry, research, and the Minister for medical and scientific research is one of the most powerful positions a person can hold.
Not all is as stable in Yevra as the Kreml' and Tsar might like, however. Revolutionary undercurrents have bubbled through the cities for generations but for a long time they were never strong enough to be considered a threat. But recently, a leader has risen amongst the discontent, unifying their calls for societal change and equal rights. That leader, the enigmatic Mayak, has begun making waves across Morgrad and Kiitagrad — and he's slowly gaining influence in the other cities as well. If the Revolutionaries continue to gain a voice, it may only be a matter of time before change comes to Yevra…

Morgrad is Yevra's capital city and the most heavily industrialised part of the country. Here, pollution is so thick that travelling anywhere in the city without a respirator is very dangerous and can cause long-term respiratory illnesses. As such, people have airlocked doors to their blocks of flats and wear respirators when travelling around. Since the city industrialised, a dividing wall has separated the richer Inner City from its workers who live in the Outer City districts. This wall also contains the infamous mangle traps - wells of gravity that can crush someone not wearing the right kind of access token.
